Prepare to Chant
Start now, learning chanting at your own pace, and continue with real-time, group class this Autumn.
The prerequisite for all of our chanting classes is the Intro to Vedic Chanting Course, now offered self-paced. In case you want to include this tool in your transformation repertoire, which we highly recommend, start there.
What sets Yoga Foundation apart, for one, is that we teach you how to chant and decipher the ancient texts, rendering your experience of Yoga one of deep immersion into its possibility as a transformative practice. Our teacher and student body reflects that.
This September, we offer three opportunities to chant: our Advanced Vedic Chanting Group, our Yoga Sutra First Chapter Chanting class and our Śraddā Sūktam class. Which one will you choose?
Chanting holds us through challenges and helps us reach safely to the other side! How? The same way a trusted family member, friend, teacher, confident, medical practitioner or caretaker compassionately cares for us through a difficult time, when we need healing. Think about it this way: mantra is that which protects us. It protects us from the destruction that life may try to inflict, the destruction we exacerbate by not knowing how to process our own traumatic experiences.
Moving from fight, flight, freeze or fawn responses to neutral takes the subtlest tools, including mantra, pranayama and dhyanam; however, even pranayama in the ancient context, was practiced with mantra. Mantra underpinned all practices, as it addresses emotional damage that can plague us for our lifetime.
Like water quenches thirst, mantra satisfies our deep yearning to emotionally heal, to find safety and equilibrium after acute and/or chronic challenges. Once a trying experience is over, its residual effect remains imprinted in our nervous system. We have to intelligently engage with ourselves to work it out, with subtle tools, to liberate our body, breath, mind, nerves and emotions from the negative feedback loop that wreaks havoc on every part of our systems.
The primary medium of influence of mantra is our emotions, and this is why we invite you to get started on your lifelong chanting journey as soon as possible.
