WHAT EXACTLY IS YOGA THERAPY?
“Yoga therapy is a self-empowering process where the care-seeker, with the help of the yoga therapist, implements a personalized and evolving yoga practice that not only addresses the illness in a multi-dimensional manner, but also aims to alleviate his/her suffering in a progressive, non-invasive and complementary manner. depending upon the nature of the illness, yoga therapy can not only be preventative or curative, but also serve a means to manage the illness, or facilitate healing in the person at all levels.”
— TKV DESIKACHAR
Yoga Therapy is a modern term that describes the original way yoga was authentically practiced, and is practiced, in its birthplace, India and at Yoga Foundation. As an emerging health-care profession, you can find services offered in mental health settings, hospital settings, in chronic pain care facilities and rehabilitation settings working in conjunction with Western medical modalities. It involves a process whereby an extensively-trained Yoga Therapist adapts yoga practices to support the unique needs of an individual, over time. This ancient and intelligent approach is for care seekers, including those who assume they can’t do yoga or yoga isn’t applicable to their condition, who are ready to elevate their own experience of personal wellbeing.
HOW MAY I BOOK A SESSION WITH DANIELLE?
IS YOGA THERAPY RIGHT FOR ME, AND HOW DOES THE PROCESS PROCEED?
Yoga Therapy addresses a broad range of physical, mental, behavioral and emotional challenges, as long as you are willing to practice at home, with our guidance. Your personal goals can be approached through this process, so we recommend you consider what shifts you would love to create for yourself prior to your first consultation. We meet six times over the course of two months. Following the consultation, your teacher will design an appropriate practice for you, and you will be asked to do this at home on a daily basis. After a series of three or four consecutive, weekly visits, we meet less frequently, bi-weekly. Thereafter, monthly, bi-monthly and seasonal sessions are recommended for practice refinement. As your symptoms and experience improve, we adapt the practice to support and extend these improvements into your life.
