Who’s got the wheel here?
Who's navigating this sleigh anyway?
Who's navigating this sleigh anyway?
'Tis the season to amp up activity and relinquish your wallet, sleep, time, energy and sanity, meanwhile wise, old nature is at rest. What is wrong with this picture? It lacks our awareness that, one, we the people of this planet have divinely provided cues for seasonal living, and two, we have yoga-nurtured faculties to resist what takes us out of balance.
As nature spirals inward, we will too. This winter and forever more, our holistic health hinges on our connection to nature and our nature. What happens in the seasons, in the macrocosm, has the capability of expressing in the microcosm, within each of us. If we follow nature's lead, like our ancestors, we gain a quality of life that is sustainable, and even revolutionary.
When the world is spinning around us, when all of our senses are being seduced by black Friday, cyber Monday, holiday sales, cookies, sweets, social engagements, reasons to stay up late, grief, loss, seasonal illness, unexpected changes in schedules, excessive responsibilities, how do we grab the reigns and get back on course?
Practice and non-attachment, noting though, that each and both of these hinge on two main parameters: the individual and their goals. To make this easier right now, let’s say our goals are health and peace this December. Now, our practice and non-attachment are contingent upon one parameter: the individual, aka, you!
We do not see what is in front of us, rather what is in the forefront of our mind, of our feelings, of our biases, of our memories, of our imaginations. Problematic it is, as from constant, subtle and gross bombardment, we become unable to distinguish between what’s hindering or helping us, as what blurs our clarity merges with who we know ourselves to be, reducing our options of experience, compounding a constricted life experience. We can make faulty conclusions and choices, get caught up in some things that are better left at a distance from our minds, hearts and lives, and act from this place.
Or…we practice. We gradually gain clarity on what brings us closer to peace and health and gain courage, will and strength to detach from that which keeps us in unwanted cycles. Life feels more balanced. We mobilize an empowered way of living in each moment, guided less by our fears, desires and aversions and ego, more from our immersion in the deep self beneath the chaos, the one who is always at ease.
