Spring's not all bees and things and flowers (RIP Roy Ayers)! Warm, freezing, rainy, sleety, frozen, mushy, windy, sunny, cloudy, foggy, calm, stormy: you name it, she brings it. Meanwhile, on the tails of winter, our systems may feel sluggish and heavy, and adapting is challenging, particularly with the predictably unpredictable conditions.
These practices, langhana, or lightening, in nature, are the antidote. Look no further than this eight week course for the metabolic tonic you know you need, but never knew Yoga could deliver. Honing our exhalation skills is never a bad idea, and more often than not, it’s a great one. Whether it’s the garbage pail, the hamper, our garages, our stomachs, our closets or the pots on our stoves, there’s only so much we can add before the cup runneth over.
At the end of winter and the beginning of spring, we are in the season of heaviness. Think of the damp, cold earth outside. The earth, as the Veda-s say, is the macrocosm, we the microcosm; thus, heaviness is also the name of that feeling you may be feeling now.
Enter: exhale. Enter: forward bends. Enter: twists. Enter: lightness. Not only does refining the exhale component lighten the mental load, over 80% of fat loss happens via the breath. Digestion is supported. Toxins are guided out of the system. Elimination is facilitated.
Do NOT take this and toy with it, as the breath, of our amazing texts on Yoga, Hatha Yoga Pradipika, states that we must tame the breath like a lion. It’s that powerful, and that dangerous, to intervene on an automatic function, such as breathing. Intelligently and progressively done, this can positive influence all systems. Haphazardly and prescriptively, detrimental effects are inevitable.
Our Yoga Therapy 1:1s and courses are the ultimate pathway to the restructuring you know you need, have tried long and hard to do without proper guidance and are moving closer to welcoming into your daily life.
